Staff at Bradleys Opticians are celebrating a double achievement with a charity cake sale in aid of Alzheimer’s Society. The Market Jew Street practice has recently been named Branch of the Year for the South West within the Scrivens group and achieved Dementia Friends status for all staff members.

Branch manager Mark Hounsell said: “We have so much to be proud of at Bradleys. Winning Branch of the Year and becoming Dementia Friends qualified are significant achievements and we want to share our success with the local community. With Market Jew Street finally reopening to traffic after months of closure, there’s even more reason to celebrate.”

The charity cake sale will take place on Wednesday 21 January, with the team baking homemade cakes and all proceeds going to Alzheimer’s Society. Members of the public are invited to drop in, meet the team and support the cause.

Bradleys has partnered with Alzheimer’s Society since 2015 and the event reflects the branch’s ongoing commitment to supporting people affected by dementia in the heart of the community. The Dementia Friends initiative aims to increase understanding of the condition and inspire positive action.

Research shows that untreated hearing loss can significantly impact cognitive wellbeing and increase the risk of isolation and depression, making early intervention crucial.

“Dementia touches so many lives in our community, We’re committed to making our practice as dementia friendly as possible while raising vital funds and awareness for Alzheimer’s Society. The need for continued research and support has never been more urgent.” – Mark Hounsell
